A suspected shoplifter almost ran over a plainclothes police officer in Kingston while escaping from a Lowe’s store, according to police reports. The incident took place on Friday at the William Gould Way location, where an officer on duty witnessed a theft in progress.
When the officer attempted to apprehend the suspect, the situation escalated, leading to a confrontation in which the suspect allegedly brandished a weapon, prompting the officer to draw his firearm.
A bystander captured the event on video, which shows the officer trying to pull the suspect from a moving SUV. As the suspect fled, the vehicle collided with another car and a shopping cart.
Fortunately, the officer was not harmed during the incident. Police believe they have sufficient evidence to charge the suspect with multiple felonies, including theft and assault.
No additional details have been released at this time.
