Shots fired at Milwaukee Lutheran High School football game

The Milwaukee Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at Milwaukee Lutheran High School during a football game with Pius XI Catholic on Friday night.

Milwaukee Lutheran’s livestream of the game captured the moment when, at the start of the fourth quarter, several gunshots were heard.

In a news release, MPD stated it responded to reports of shots fired at the high school about 9:20 p.m.

According to an MPD Press Release:
MPD responded at 9:20, no injuries have been reported, no one is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

Milwaukee Lutheran administrators announced Saturday morning the cancellation of all activities, including athletic functions and homecoming events, through Sunday, Sept. 24. A previously planned virtual school day for Monday, Sept. 25 will go on as scheduled. The release also confirmed that MPD officers were already in attendance at the game at the time of the incident, with additional officers and squads responding to the shots fired outside of the perimeter of the track.

“The Milwaukee Police Department will continue to manage this situation as it unfolds. Milwaukee Lutheran High School will cooperate with the Milwaukee Police Department regarding the ongoing police investigation,” the district release said. “As further information becomes available, an additional communication will be sent to parents and families. The continued safety of our students remains our top priority.”

The game was called minutes after the gunshots were heard with Pius leading, 37-14. Student spectators were released to their parents at the direction of the Milwaukee Police Department.
